Sell Your Stuff For Cash

Sell your stuff (furniture) for cash. If you are downsizing to live in a van, here is a guide on where to sell your stuff for cash.

If you’re anything like me, you have a bunch of random stuff lying around your house. Instead of letting it sit there for any longer, why not sell it and make some extra cash? If you are planning on moving into a van, then you DEFINITELY need to get rid of a ton of your stuff and downsize.

If you are actively looking for things to sell, chances are you’ll find tons. Check your junk drawer, that camera you haven’t used all year, or that random chair you thought would look cute in your room but doesn’t. Here are all of the places I sell my stuff for cash, and why I do or do not like them:

OfferUp/Letgo:

Pros:

  • No Fees: You choose how much you want to sell your clothes and you keep 100% of the profit!

  • User Friendly: Take your photos, upload the images with a short description and you’re good to go!

  • No Need To Move Heavy Furniture: With OfferUp, you can choose the location to meet up. This means if there is heavy / large furniture that you don’t have a way to move, they can come right to you!

Cons:

  • Personal Meet-Ups: Make sure when you sell anything online that you are staying as safe as possible. This not only means wearing a mask at every trade off but also meeting up at a public area to sell your items any time that it is possible. My favorite place to do trade offs is in a parking lot of a gas station or shopping center.

  • You take your own photos and deal with customers yourself. You have to put the work in if you really want to sell your furniture and it can be a bit time consuming.

  • Promoting With A Cost: To bump your listing up to the top, you must pay a one time fee or for a promoting subscription.

Facebook Marketplace:

Pros:

  • No Fees: You choose how much you want to sell your clothes and you keep 100% of the profit!

  • User Friendly: Take your photos, upload the images with a short description and you’re good to go! On Facebook Marketplace you don’t need to interact with other users to get more seen, it’s a one-and-done deal.

  • Renew Listing: If your listing has been up for a while and it is getting no traction. With the click of a button it will go back to the top again.

  • Group chats: For selling furniture, I joined yard sale groups and trade/sell groups in my area. Those are filled with people who are constantly looking for new things for their house.

  • No Need To Move Heavy Furniture: With Facebook Marketplace, you can choose the location to meet up.

Consignment Store:

*This will differ on what consignment store you go to. Here are my general thoughts.

Pros:

  • Quicker Results: If you are in a rush to get your furniture out of your house and have a way to move it, this is the way to go. It is perfect for anyone who doesn’t want the furniture to sit around at your house as you wait for a buyer.

Cons:

  • Hard To Move Bigger Furniture: If you don’t have a truck or a good back, it might be difficult for you to bring the furniture to your nearest consignment store.

With all these different ways of selling your stuff, you will guaranteed be able to make cash! So what are you waiting for? Go out there and get started!
